Bar Trigona. Kuala Lumpur: Cocktails at the Four Seasons
Why Bar Trigona Is One of Kuala Lumpur's Most Interesting Cocktail Bars
Tucked inside the Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Bar Trigona is the kind of hotel bar that feels like a destination in its own right. The room is glamorous without being overly formal, with dark stone, mirrored walls, dramatic lighting and an impressive back bar that immediately sets the tone. Despite the polished surroundings, sitting at the bar felt relaxed and gave us a front-row seat to the creativity behind the drinks.
What makes Bar Trigona particularly interesting is its emphasis on Malaysian ingredients. The bar takes its name from the trigona stingless bee, and local honey plays a prominent role in both the drinks and the overall identity of the bar. The menu goes well beyond simply adding tropical flavors to familiar cocktails, incorporating ingredients such as pandan, calamansi, local herbs, spices and fermented elements.

The Cocktails
We started with the Chic Old Fashioned, made with Michter’s Bourbon Whiskey, dry vermouth, palo santo, lemon and a menthol candle. It was a clever interpretation of an Old Fashioned, retaining the spirit-forward character we wanted while bringing in unexpected aromatic elements.
The presentation throughout the evening was part of the experience without feeling gimmicky. One cocktail arrived alongside a miniature shaker and was served on a custom wooden tray, while another incorporated Bar Trigona’s honey service, complete with a small honey dipper. Even the branded cookie accompanying one of the drinks reinforced the bar’s bee-and-honey theme.
The menu also offers a fascinating Trigona Honey Flight, designed to demonstrate how honey changes depending on its origin and surroundings. It is a small detail, but one that helps explain why honey is more than simply a sweetener here—it is one of the foundations of the bar’s identity.
We also tried several of the bar’s more contemporary creations. The drinks were beautifully presented, but more importantly, they remained balanced. With ingredients like miso butter, soy caramel, pandan, saffron and local pickle brine appearing on the menu, it would be easy for the concepts to overwhelm the cocktails. Instead, the unusual ingredients generally worked in support of the base spirits rather than competing with them.

Bar Trigona is absolutely worth putting on a Kuala Lumpur cocktail itinerary. What impressed us most was that the Malaysian influence wasn't merely decorative. Local ingredients—especially trigona honey—are genuinely integrated into the drinks and give the bar a sense of place that many luxury hotel bars lack.
If you enjoy creative cocktails but still want drinks that are recognizable as cocktails rather than culinary experiments in a glass, Bar Trigona strikes that balance particularly well.
Best for: Creative cocktails, Malaysian ingredients, luxury hotel bars and sitting at the bar to watch the drinks being made.
Don’t miss: A cocktail featuring trigona honey and at least one of the bar’s Malaysian-inspired signatures.
