Hyatt Regency Hakone is one of Hyatt's most unique resorts in Japan. Located in the mountains of Hakone, the hotel combines modern luxury with traditional Japanese design, a relaxing onsen, and easy access to the Hakone Ropeway, Owakudani, and Lake Ashi. During our stay we received a complimentary suite upgrade as Hyatt Globalists and spent two nights exploring the area. Here's whether it's worth using Hyatt points, or paying cash, for your Hakone getaway.

Traditional Japanese tatami sitting area in Hyatt Regency Hakone suite

Our suite blended traditional Japanese design with modern Hyatt comfort. The separate tatami sitting area gave the room a distinctly local feel while still offering a spacious Western-style bedroom. The suite was significantly larger than a standard room and made relaxing after a day exploring Hakone especially enjoyable.

Spacious bathroom with soaking tub and walk-in shower at Hyatt Regency Hakone

The oversized bathroom featured dual sinks, a large walk-in shower, deep soaking tub, and premium amenities. While the hotel is known for its communal onsen, having a spacious bathroom was another welcome luxury.

One of the highlights of Hyatt Regency Hakone is the complimentary evening social offered to Globalist guests. The small bites and drinks create a relaxed atmosphere before dinner and encourage guests to gather in the impressive lobby.

Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the forest at Hyatt Regency Hakone

The soaring two-story lobby is easily the centerpiece of Hyatt Regency Hakone. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the surrounding forest, creating a peaceful mountain retreat unlike most city Hyatt properties in Japan.
